Today, September 12, Apple is organizing its traditional end-of-year keynote with the announcement of new iPhones. Only a few selected journalists will be present, but we will, of course, also cover the event live. Until this evening, let’s review the main potential announcements from the Apple firm for D-Day…
To begin with, it is the iPhone 15 which should be announced during the conference. However, we assume the most expensive model, the iPhone 15 Pro Max with its imposing rear photo sensor, is late. This model could, therefore, wait until October to be presented to the general public. No worries for the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro, though. The new smartphones could be pre-ordered from Friday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m., with first deliveries and release in stores on Friday, September 22. A potential schedule is calculated according to Apple’s previous high-end mobile deployment history.
With this, rumors point to an Apple Watch Series 9, like every year. The device would have a more powerful processor but still have the same design and an identical screen size. The price could, however, be revised upwards with the watchOS ten operating system. The platform was announced at the Worldwide Developer Conference in June. The Apple Watch Series 9 update would be minor compared to previous generations, leaving the way open for a supposed Apple Watch X to improve the appearance of the case by 2024.
It is rare to see Apple unveil new Macs during its keynote dedicated to the new premium iPhones. So we don’t think new laptops will be presented on September 12. Moreover, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman estimates that MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs with M3 chips will not be ready before October. A second keynote could then be organized, as has been the case several times.
Also presented during WWDC, the iOS 17 operating system (for the most recent iPhones) should have a release date during the keynote. It would only take days to see the program land on our mobiles. For comparison, our detailed predictions are based on an update for Monday, September 18 or Tuesday, September 19. Of course, along with iOS 17, Apple should specify the release date of macOS Sonoma, watchOS 10, tvOS 17, the new HomePod operating system and iPadOS 17.
Before finishing, let’s also discuss the case of wireless headphones. AirPods have been announced alongside new iPhones, but that’s not always true. Despite everything, the third generation of the classic model dates from the end of 2021. And the previous one arrived two years before. It would, therefore, make sense for a fourth version to arrive before the end of the year. However, according to most rumors, no AirPods model is planned for 2023. It is, therefore, unlikely to discover any during the keynote.
It’s the same thing for tablets: Apple does not plan to present any this year. Otherwise, only the eleventh-generation “classic” iPad and the sixth-generation iPad Air could be candidates for renewal, given the release date of the previous editions. But no clue in this direction has been published so far. We have just heard about a new iPad mini, which will not be finished for the fourth quarter either.
